BROOKFIELD

The town of Brookfield is truly a charming place to live and play.  Most well-known for being the home of the Chicago Zoological Society’s Brookfield Zoo, the town’s main attraction features beautifully landscaped, sprawling walkways and innovative indoor and outdoor habitats that offer year-round activity for locals and visitors from all over the world.  For shopping and dining at vibrant local establishments, Brookfield is fortunate to feature two thriving downtown districts with a variety of locally owned shops, pubs and restaurants, including an authentic Irish pub which draws visitors from all over.  The first downtown district is central to town and comprises the blocks surrounding the main train station on Prairie Avenue, which is one of three train stations in town.  The second is Veterans Memorial Circle, locally known as Eight Corners, where a roundabout drive circles a beautiful fountain and memorial, and leads to more lively bars, restaurants, grocery store and other shops.

Just 13 miles from Chicago, Brookfield’s housing stock includes mid-century construction, modern construction, and abundant Victorians, each of which are scattered throughout the village.  A concentration of Victorians and other early 20th century architecture situated on larger lots are located along the winding streets of the Hollywood neighborhood.  One of the three train stations in town, as well as a neighborhood elementary school are also located in Hollywood.  The village’s new library is a popular local destination and features educational and recreational programming for all ages.

The village is spread across four school districts, depending on location.  Local schools include:
